Thread: Cat seems lethargic and loss of appetite

  1. Cat seems lethargic and loss of appetite

Hello, thank you for reviewing my question.

My cat has become increasingly lethargic over the last couple of days to the point where I don't even see her when I am home. She isn't hiding but doesn't move from one place. She seems to have lost her appetite too and I'm not sure what is going on. I am going to take her to the vet tomorrow because I don't know where to take her this late in the evening. I'm really starting to worry about her and I'm not sure what to do. Please let me know if you have any ideas what I can do for her and if any additional information may help identify what a possible problem is.

    Thank you in advance

Hopefully you've been to your veterinarian today.

Lethargy in cats can have any number of reasons: infection/abscess or trauma if they were outside and got into a cat fight; fever; an injured limb...if your cat is older it could be a sign of an underlying metabolic problems like diabetes or kidney disease.

A thorough exam should point you in the right direction. Your cat may need blood tests and/or x-rays to get to the bottom of her discomfort.

Hopefully, this won't happen in the future, but you should ask your veterinarian to show you how to take your cat's temperature so you'll know what is normal. Also- consider taking a pet first aid class. It can give you a base of information to help you help your cat when you have questions about her health.
