  1. Mandatory Microchips? Positive step or Potential Pitfall

by on Yesterday at 03:29 PM (From the mind of Tomcat...)
Over in the United Kingdom, a rash of aggressive dog problems is naturally leading to discussions about how to handle the issues. A proposal for compulsory microchipping of all dogs has now surfaced in one attempt to gain control of a serious situation.

As I read this story, I thought "Wow...that could be a really good idea!" Imagine that if all puppies were microchipped, we could potentially see a decrease in owned dogs showing up at shelters, quicker reunions of pets ...

  2. Cost of Care at Emergency & Critical Care Facilities: Service & Convenience

by on Yesterday at 09:19 AM
In our local area, the higher cost of care at veterinary emergency and critical care facilities seems to be a fairly regular subject of complaint and concern in the newspaper. The ongoing debate over human medical care and its costs, also keeps the issue alive in the media. I have spoken often on the subject on television, radio and in print media. Wow!! It's hard to believe that the Iditarod race is here again! This well-known sled dog race started this weekend and will continue for the next week. I am just always amazed at the sheer will and perserverance of the sled dog teams and their mushers.

I am also amazed because with the coming of the Iditarod, that means that our site, PetDocsOnCall.com, has been up for an entire year. I know that is a fact because one of our first controversial threads was all about the Iditarod and how one user believed that the sled dogs were abused and not well cared for.. ...

    INTRODUCTION TO EVIDENCE-BASED MEDICAL PRACTICE

THE BELOW ANALYSIS WAS SHARED WITH ME BY COLLEAGUE DR. BRENNAN MCKENZIE. IT DEMONSTRATES WHAT AN EVIDENCE BASED APPROACH TO ANALYZING AVAILABLE INFORMATION ABOUT ANIMAL CARE LOOKS LIKE. IF IT STIMULATES THOUGHT REGARDING THE APPROACH TO YOUR OWN ANIMALS PROBLEMS, THEN I WILL HAVE ACHIEVED MY INTENDED RESULT. ENJOY!
